Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher Out 'Weeks' With a Broken Thumb

The Montreal Canadiens are going to be without forward Brendan Gallagher for 'weeks' after he was hit with friendly fire on Monday night. The heart and soul winger was hit by defenseman Alexander Romanov's shot in front of the net and his head coach confirmed the fracture after the game.

Gallagher is the type of teammate every one loves to have as he loves going into the dirty areas of the ice, and unfortunately against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday he paid the price for it.

So far this season the 28-year-old veteran has recorded 14 goals and 23 points in 34 games. Losing Gallagher's production could change the direction of general manager Marc Bergevin's thought process before the April 12th trade deadline. Kyle Palmieri of the New Jersey Devils is someone to watch for here.

Eric Staal played in his first game for the Canadiens on Monday and fittingly so he scored the overtime winner. After a seven-day quarantine Staal looked refreshed and certainly won over his teammates with this snipe:
