Rumor: Maple Leafs and Flames Discussing Multi-Player Deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to talk trade with several teams and according to a source close to team operations, one of those teams remains the Calgary Flames.

The Leafs are monitoring the Frederik Andersen injury situation and should he end up missing the rest of the season, or has a set back before the April 12th trade deadline, the Maple Leafs have interest in acquiring goaltender David Rittich from the Flames.

The 28-year-old is a pending unrestricted free-agent and is only making $2.75 million on the salary cap, which of course now only has roughly half of his salary remaining. The Flames could also retain some of the money which in turn would land the team a better prospect from the Leafs as general manager Kyle Dubas has mentioned he won't be shy when sending a prospect or two the other way. Rittich's numbers aren't amazing but they are solid on a bad team as he's managed a 2.79 GAA and a .907 save %.

Another Flame to watch here is Brett Richie as the Leafs like his edge and he's also a pending free-agent only making $700,000. Ritchie would provide the Leafs with some more depth for their fourth-line and the 6'4 forward would also provide a nice addition of some more size for the team for the playoffs.

The Leafs also continue to look for ways to upgrade their third-line center position as the team isn't quite sold Alexander Kerfoot can play a shut-down role in the playoffs. While he may not be included in this potential deal with the Flames, expect to see his name mentioned before April 12th, heading on his way out of Toronto.
