Tampa Bay Lands David Savard in Huge 3-Team Trade

Welcome to the world of a hard salary cap as Saturday we saw a very creative three-way trade that resulted in defenseman David Savard heading to the Tampa Bay Lightning from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Meanwhile the Detroit Red Wings were also involved and retained half of his salary.

Lots to digest there as the Lightning add the best defenseman on the trade market. So far this season the 30-year-old has appeared in 40 games and recorded six points. He'll immediately step into their top-four and be able to kill penalties.

Savard is a huge upgrade for the Lightning who played with Zach Bogosian and Luke Schenn on their right side for most of last season's playoffs.

Look for all three teams to remain active ahead of Monday's deadline especially with the Red Wings and Blue Jackets selling off more assets.
