Vegas Tried Hard to Acquire Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf

Well it wasn't for a lack of trying as the Vegas Golden Knights contacted the Anaheim Ducks to see if Ryan Getzlaf wanted to waive his no-trade clause. Turns out 'Getzy' is all about his team as he decided to decline the trade because he didn't feel the Ducks would be getting back enough to help the organization.

Take about a team guy. Getzlaf has spent his entire career in Anaheim and didn't want to leave the only organization he's known high and dry. The 35-year-old pending free-agent met with the media recently and had this to say about what went on during trade deadline day:

I don't want to dig too much into the details of everything. (General manager Bob Murray) was approached by a few different teams. Vegas, being one of them, I think, at some point. Were they part of the mix? I'm sure. They're a contender in our division.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were another team that was very interested in Getzlaf and couldn't convince him to waive his no-trade protection.

While this season hasn't gone as planned for Getzlaf or the Ducks, expect to see a one-year contract extension signed in the offseason. The expectation now is both Getzlaf and the team will take it season by season to finish out the final chapter of his career.
