Maple Leafs to Name Jack Campbell Game One Starter

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be naming Jack Campbell the starting goaltender for game one of the playoffs. Campbell sits with a 17-2-2 record and is among the league leaders in goals against average and save percentage.

The backup turned starter took advantage of his opportunity after regular starter Frederik Andersen went down with a knee injury. Andersen missed 23 games and made his return on Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators and while he wasn't spectacular, he did show some signs of brilliance. Regardless, apparently the decision has already been made and the team is comfortable with Campbell as the starter and Andersen there as a security blanket should things not go so well early on against the Montreal Canadiens.

This is certainly something to watch as the playoffs commence and as the Leafs head into the offseason. Campbell is signed next season on the cheap at $1.65 million and Andersen is without a contract, so the cap crunched Leafs team could end up walking away from Andersen completely and save a few bucks to acquire some more talent.

Regardless, they will worry about that later. For now, it's Leafs versus the Habs for the first time in over 40 years and Jack Campbell will be leading the Maple Leafs out of the tunnel for game one.
