Chicago Blackhawks GM Provides Update on Jonathan Toews

The Chicago Blackhawks were dealt a massive blow that shocked the NHL before this season started as captain Jonathan Toews was ruled out due to a mystery illness. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman spoke to the media on Wednesday and confirmed the team is 'hopeful' to have Toews back in the lineup for next season.

Bowman admitted Toews and him speak about every three weeks, and no official decision has yet to be made, which is cause for concern. Toews currently sits on the long-term injury reserve, where he's been since January. Bowman had this to say about the latest update:

He's doing well. We're hopeful he'll be back, but we're going to let it play out and we'll see.

Toews is now 33, and his last season of play saw him record 60 points in 70 games. The Blackhawks ended up doing way better than expected this season considering all the adversity. Here's what Toews had to say back December:

This offseason, I've been experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic. I am working with doctors so I can better understand my condition.

Until I can get my health back to a place where I feel I can perform at an elite level and help my team, I will not be joining the Blackhawks for training camp. I do not have a timetable for when I will rejoin the team. I am extremely disappointed, but it wouldn't be fair to myself or my teammates to attempt to play in my current condition.

We all wish Captain Serious nothing but the best and let's hope he can come back 100% for next season.
