Oilers GM and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Grinding Out Contract Negotiations

Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland has some big decisions to make this offseason and at the top of his list is the contract extension for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman confirmed on Tuesday, the two sides continue to grind it out.

This doesn't sound very promising and there's certainly a chance RNH hits the open market this summer. You have to think with the Oilers have two superstars in their prime, they can't let reasonable secondary talent walk away.

Last season in Edmonton, RNH scored 35 points in 52 games and made $6 million on the salary cap. The Oilers would like to keep his next contract very close to the $6 million mark, meanwhile it's believed RNH's camp is looking for closer to $7.2 million.

The two sides continue to grind to find common ground and Oilers fans are hoping it's not the same ol' story watching some of the team's best players leave Edmonton to greener pastures.
