Insider Drops Stunning New Potential Destination For UFA Brock Boeser

There are plenty of rumors surrounding pending unrestricted free agent Brock Boeser. The Vancouver Canucks' goal-scoring winger is being watched by the likes of the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins, among others.

But insider David Pagnotta has linked Boeser to a Vancouver Western Canadian rival that would really be a kick in the head for Canucks fans.

If the Edmonton Oilers clear more cap space, I wouldn’t be shocked if they entered the Brock Boeser race come July 1.

The Oilers just shipped out Evander Kane this past week (incidentally, to Vancouver), and they currently have $12.35 million available under the cap, while there's still talk of them trying to unload Viktor Arivdsson and his $4M cap hit. Then again, there's also the $10M or so they'll need to dedicate to RFA Evan Bouchard. Whether they can make the cap room to go after Boeser remains to be seen.

Are the Canucks still trying to keep Boeser?

Speaking on the Hockey Now podcast on Saturday, Pagnotta added that the ship has sailed in Vancouver for any possible last-ditch effort at re-signing Boeser.

"All this crap about them circling back on Brock Boeser..(laughs).. Uh.. No! Brock's got a few choice words for (the Canucks) that I can’t say on this program. Brock's leaving. He's out."

Vancouver's loss could be the Oilers' gain, Pagnotta suggests. But there will obviously be a heap of competition.

After Mitch Marner (who now, more than ever, appears headed to Vegas), Nikolaj Ehlers and Boeser are the next best offensive threats on the UFA market.

Boeser finished the 2024-25 campaign with 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points, following up a 40-goal, 73 point season the year before. He's coming of a three-year, $6.65 million cap hit.
