Rumor: Maple Leafs Contact Blue Jackets About Seth Jones

The Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to upgrade their roster for next season and general manager Kyle Dubas has been in contact with several teams about a trade. One team on the list is the Columbus Blue Jackets and according to sources close to the team, the Leafs have reached out to see about the cost of defenseman Seth Jones.

The Maple Leafs have Morgan Rielly and Alexander Kerfoot who they are dangling to other teams. Rielly has one season left on his contract, meanwhile Kerfoot is likely to be exposed to the Seattle Kraken and the Leafs could move on from him before then to get something in return. It's not yet known what kind of package the Blue Jackets are after, but it's not likely one loaded with prospects and the team is likely after proven NHL talent.

This season Rielly scored 35 points in 55 games but struggled in the playoffs and Leafs Nation let him hear it. The former first-round pick wasn't able to step up for the team when defenseman Jake Muzzin went down in Game 7. As for Kerfoot, the 26-year-old has two seasons left on his contract, paying him $3.5 million per season. He scored eight times and recorded 23 points in 56 games for the Leafs this season.

As for Jones, he's been linked to a few teams including the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks. Now the Leafs have put their name in the hat and we'll have to wait and see how the summer plays out for Jones, the Blue Jackets and the Leafs.
