Rumor: Zach Hyman Finished With Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas wants nothing more but to have Zach Hyman in his lineup come opening night next season, however the pending free-agent may have priced himself off the team. Rumblings have begun around those close to the team, stating it's likely over between the two.

According to James Mirtle of the Athletic, who is in tune with the Leafs more than most:

The more I've talked to people around the team in the weeks since the Leafs' season ended in ugly fashion, the less that feels like where we're headed. In fact, it feels downright unlikely anything is going to get done.

Hyman is a heart and soul player who has blossomed into a legitimate power forward in the NHL. When he plays on the top-line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, Hyman puts his work boots on and gets into all the dirty areas for his two line mates. Ask any superstar and they will tell you they love to play with players who get the puck back. Hyman does that and more.

The Leafs have more cap space than you think with roughly $12 million to work with, but they need to sign Frederik Andersen or a capable back up, and there's been a ton of chatter surrounding the team about a blockbuster trade and in this deal could be bringing back some salary.

Seems like Dubas is either going to sign Hyman or make a huge trade. It's not likely it's both. Leafs Nation, how are you feeling? Let us know in the comments if you want Hyman re-signed.
