3 Moves The New York Rangers Need To Make This Off-Season

The New York Rangers have already made a lot of big decisions since their season ended. They fired John Davidson, Jeff Gorton and David Quinn. They also traded for Barclay Goodrow and they are on the verge of signing him to a six-year deal. Yet, there is still more work to be done, as the Rangers are certainly looking to make it back into the postseason next year. They have money to work with, so it'll be interesting to see what new general manager Chris Drury decides to do.

Here are three moves they should consider making.

Add A Center: The Rangers have been linked to Jack Eichel and it would make sense for them to add him. He would form an amazing one-two punch with Mika Zibanejad down the middle and they have the assets to make a deal work. However, even if it isn't Eichel, adding a center with term should still be a major priority. Both Zibanejad and Ryan Strome have expiring deals, so they could very well lose them next summer if the worst case scenario occurs.

Extend RFA Adam Fox: The Dallas Stars recently signed Miro Heiskanen to an eight-year extension, and the Rangers should follow suit with Adam Fox. They can start extension talks with him this summer, and it would be wise to get a deal done as soon as possible. The 23-year-old defenseman is coming off a Norris Trophy season and has developed into a true top-two defenseman. Thus, he should be a major priority this summer.

Add Depth Scoring: It is essential for the Rangers to add more depth scoring to their bottom-six. They are starting to by signing Goodrow, but more needs to be done. They could lose Colin Blackwell to the Kraken and he was tied for sixth in scoring out of their forwards. From there, they had multiple forwards who had under 10 points on the season, and that's just too low. This lack of production was a big reason why they would end up missing the postseason this year. Signing a few more bottom-six forwards who can contribute offensively is a real necessity at the end of the day.
