Calgary Flames Defenseman Officially Signs KHL Deal

Calgary Flames defenseman Nikita Nesterov has officially signed his one-year contract with CSKA Moscow to return to the KHL. It had been reported previously that this would happen, but a deal had never been finalized until now

Nesterov returned to the NHL this season with the Flames after playing three seasons with CSKA Moscow. In 38 games with the Flames, the 28-year-old defenseman had four assists and was a -10. With this official, the Flames will now be looking to a sign a replacement who play bottom-pair minutes. They also may lose fellow left-handed defenseman Mark Giordano to the Kraken, too.

After how this season went, it seems as though Nesterov will not play another game at the NHL level. In 170 career NHL games, he scored nine goals and recorded 37 total points. Before heading to the KHL originally, Nesterov also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens.

Nesterov has had decent success in the KHL in the past, so perhaps he will be able to play well there again.
