3 Teams Who Should Sign Veteran Defenseman Travis Hamonic

Travis Hamonic will be taking a different approach with free agency this year. He has only wanted to stay in Western Canada to be near his family in recent years. Yet, he is open now to all options, so there should be plenty of teams wanting to sign the top-four defensive defenseman. In 38 games this season with the Vancouver Canucks, he had three goals and 10 points.

These three teams should try to sign the 30-year-old this off-season.

Vancouver Canucks: The Canucks should at least explore the possibility of a Hamonic reunion. He certainly played well in his lone season with the team, as he formed a strong pair with Quinn Hughes. Keeping a stable defenseman like Hamonic with an offensively-driven one like Hughes is a real necessity. If Hamonic is willing to re-sign at an affordable price, this seems like a no-brainer for them.

Winnipeg Jets: Another Canadian team, yes, but it would make sense. The Jets are particularly weak on the right side of their defense. Hamonic would immediately be an upgrade over what they have and could form a solid duo with Josh Morrisey. His physical play and overall dependability on the backend should make him alluring to the Jets.

Boston Bruins: With the retirement of Kevan Miller, the Bruins are in need of a right-handed defenseman. Hamonic would have to play bottom-pair minutes there, but it would solidify their right side perfectly. The Bruins also are working with a lot of money this off-season, so this could be a potential possibility.
