Gabriel Landeskog Contract Demands Revealed And He Wants A LOT

Oh, boy. Gabriel Landeskog is looking for a BIG payday. According to Andy Strickland, the 28-year-old winger may ask for $9-$10 million if he hits the open market. The Avalanche also reportedly only offered between $5 and $6 million per season on an 8-year deal. Therefore, we now can see why things are so far apart between the two parties.

Even with him being open to taking a hometown discount to stay, that is far too big of a difference. The Avalanche have some time left to finalize an extension with him, but things aren't looking good right now. Landeskog has already expressed disappointment with how their talks are being handled.

Keep in mind, the Avalanche also have to, at a minimum, re-sign RFA Cale Makar. Philipp Grubauer also is a pending unrestricted free agent. They could elect to let him go, but that would still require them to sign another goalie. With that being said, it is hard to determine how much more they can increase their offer by.

Landeskog has been the captain of the Avalanche since his second season in the league. Since then, he has become a great two-way forward who not only produces good offense, but also plays very physically. Losing him would be very hard for Colorado, but if he really wants that much money, it may be for the best.
