Avs' Goalie Philipp Grubauer Opens Up About His Future

If it was solely up the Colorado Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer, he would be staying with the team 100%. His interest has been made public, and now he waits to see what kind of offer comes from Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic.

Grubauer spoke with The Denver Post's Sean Keeler and had this to say about his future:

One-hundred percent. I think we have an incredible team next year, too. (General manager) Joe (Sakic) and (assistant general manager Chris MacFarland), they always do a great job putting a team together that’s performing at a high level and playing in the playoffs. And I want to be a part of that. Everything is uncertain right now. Every team is waiting for the expansion draft. I would love to stay in Denver. Denver has become home. I love the team, love the organization. So it would be nice to work something out.

Grubauer is right, a lot of teams are putting players on stand by while they wait for the Seattle Kraken draft to unfold. Last season Grubauer made $3.33 million and will be looking for something around $6 million moving forward. Even that may be on the light side as he posted a 30-9-1 record with a 1.95 GAA and a .922 save %. Elite goaltending like this doesn't grow on trees and Sakic would be smart to lock up his netminder who has no interest skipping town.
