Rumor: Chicago Blackhawks Looking to Acquire Marc-Andre Fleury

According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, his sources confirmed Monday the Chicago Blackhawks have interest in Vegas Golden Knights netminder Marc-Andre Fleury.

With Blackhawks great Duncan Keith heading to Edmonton earlier in the day, general manager Stan Bowman has some extra funds to work with and adding a veteran goalie makes a ton of sense for Chicago. Starter Kevin Lankinen surely came out of nowhere last season to impress, however he isn't proven in the league with only 37 games under his belt. The undrafted native of Helsinki Finland would be a very capable backup option for the Flower.

Meanwhile in Vegas, they're looking to shed some salary next season so they have more flexibility to upgrade their forward group. It's believed the team wants to hang on to Robin Lehner as he's younger, signed longer and for less and is coming into his own with the team. Nothing against Fleury obviously, as it's not often the reigning Vezina trophy winner is asked to leave town.

A trade target for the Golden Knights would be Kirby Dach and how could you blame them, but they'll have to settle for Dylan Strome. Dach isn't going anywhere for a veteran netminder with one year left on his deal.  Strome would head to the Vegas strip making $3 million next season, the last year on his contract. Last season the former #3 overall pick recorded 17 points in 40 games, and would be looking to get back into the almost point a game player he was in his first season in Chicago.

With Jonathan Toews headed in the right direction with his recovery, Strome could become expendable. It's all going to come down to if the Golden Knights are interested. We all know where the Blackhawks interest lies.
