The Detroit Red Wings And Tampa Bay Lightning Strike A Deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded forward Mitchell Stephens to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick. Red Wings' general manager Steve Yzerman originally drafted Stephens in 2015 when he held that same role with the Lightning.

Due to the Lightning's immense forward depth, Stephens had a hard time cementing himself a permanent spot on their roster. With the Red Wings, he stands a real shot of being a part of their bottom-six. He also is still only 24-years-old, so there is also still room for growth. He should improve when given more opportunities to play.

Over the last two seasons with the Lightning, Stephens played in 45 games. In them, he scored three goals and recorded seven total points. He can play both center and on the wing, so the Red Wings have multiple options with him. Perhaps he can even be utilized on their penalty kill.

Nonetheless, this is a nice little move for the Red Wings and could benefit them in the end.
