Veteran Defenseman May Be Heading To The Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens may be signing defenseman David Savard, according to Elliotte Friedman. They are in need of a right-handed defenseman, as Shea Weber has been ruled out for the season. Although he plays a smaller role than Weber, he would still be a good signing.

Savard is a hard-hitting defenseman who is capable of playing top-four minutes. The regular season was a bit hard for the 30-year-old, as he only had a goal and six points in 54 games. After being traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he also failed to produce a point in 14 games. He was a -27 in total, too.

However, once the postseason began, Savard seemed to find his game and was a very important piece for the Lightning. His strong defensive play and immense physicality made playing against him a real pain for opponents. He also produced a bit more offense, as he had five assists in 20 games. His performance in the playoffs shows that he is still a very steady defenseman worth gambling on.

If the Canadiens do in fact add them, he will help improve their right side moving forward and give them much more of an edge.
