Video: Chicago Blackhawks Draft Another Dach

A common theme this off-season seems to be teams adding family members to their rosters. The Chicago Blackhawks added Seth and Caleb Jones, the Colorado Avalanche drafted Cale Makar's brother, and the Arizona Coyotes drafted Shane Doan's son, Josh. The Blackhawks added to the list yet again when they drafted Colton Dach with the 62nd pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Now he has the chance to play professional hockey with his brother, Kirby.

Colton is a big center who is praised for his physicality and net-front presence. However, he also saw a significant increase in his offensive production this season with the WHL's Saskatoon Blades. In 20 games, he had 11 goals and 20 points. Although it was a small sample size this season, it is clear that he progressed significantly over just one year. In 2019-20 with the Blades, he played in 62 games and had 11 goals and 29 total points. Had he played a full season, he easily would have set career-highs.

As a late second-round pick, it is fair to state that Colton does have a good shot of making the NHL some day. It may take a bit of time, but if he continues to improve this well, he should be playing in Chicago in the future. His mix of size and production certainly helps his case.
