Ottawa Senators Bringing Back Scott Sabourin

The Ottawa Senators have signed Scott Sabourin to a one-year, two-way contract. It will pay him $700,000 at the NHL level and $200,000 in the minors. He is coming back to Ottawa after one season with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

Sabourin skated in just one game with the Leafs, but memorably got into a scrap with Milan Lucic during the latter's 1,000th NHL game.

Yet, he did not contribute on the scoresheet in his lone game with the club. Yet, he did not contribute on the scoresheet in his lone game with the club. He also played in six games with the Toronto Marlies and scored two goals. He had 22 penalty minutes as well, which is not too surprising given his style of play.

With the Senators during the 2019-20 season, Sabourin got a pretty decent chunk of playing time as a 27-year-old rookie. He would go on to play 35 games with the team as a fourth-liner, but ended up having injury trouble. He also provided a little offense to the team, as he scored two goals and recorded six points. However, he was primarily there to provide a high degree of physicality and overall toughness.

It will be interesting to see what Sabourin's role will be with the Senators this time around. It is quite possible that he will be their 13th forward, as Austin Watson currently is their fourth-line right winger. He also may play with the Belleville Senators.

Nonetheless, this is a minor move, but it will be nice to see Sabourin back playing in Ottawa again. Here's to hoping he makes the NHL squad as a depth option.
