Colorado Avalanche: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

The Colorado Avalanche will be focused in this piece. They were thankfully able to re-sign Gabriel Landeskog, but were not so lucky with their other key UFAs. However, they should still be in good shape because of how much depth they possess. In fact, they seem as legitimate favorites once again.

Best Addition: Darcy Kuemper G

The Colorado Avalanche quickly traded for Darcy Kuemper after losing Philipp Grubauer to the Seattle Kraken through free agency. This was an essential move for Colorado to make, as they needed a starting goaltender. Kuemper had a bit of a down season with Arizona though, as he went 10-11-3 with a .907 SV%. However, he was lights out the two previous seasons, so they are hoping he finds his form. With him joining a far superior team in Colorado, he does stand a good shot of doing this.

Worst Subtraction: Philipp Grubauer G

Even though Colorado signed Kuemper, it still hurts that they lost Grubauer. Grubauer was sensational this past season, as he had a 30-9-1 record to go along with a 1.95 GAA and .922 SV%. This came after two seasons where he had a .917 SV% and then .916 SV%. Therefore, he was a very reliable goaltender during his three years with the team, so it's hard to see him go. The loss of Brandon Saad is also one that will sting.
