Connor McDavid Challenges His Oilers Teammates to Step Up in 2021-22

Connor McDavid knows his general manager worked hard this summer so he doesn't want to let him down. McDavid also doesn't want any of his teammates to underperform as the Edmonton Oilers captain recently challenged all of his teammates to step up their game.

McDavid met with the media earlier this week and had this to say about the 2021-22 season:

Definitely thinking the time is now. (I'm) 24 years old, (Darnell Nurse) and (Leon Draisaitl) are 25, 26, (and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is) 28, so the old excuse (that) we're young guys is no longer. Kenny's done his job, gone out, and gotten pieces and added some things ... it's on us now to put the thing together. More veteran guys ... some older voices, some guys that have been around and played in some big scenarios and games, and I just noticed that right off the top

The Oilers have enjoyed regular season success but if some doesn't come in the Stanley Cup Playoffs there will be more changes coming in Edmonton. Expect the team to acquire another goaltender at some point this season as the team could use more stability behind Mike Smith. As for McDavid, expect another MVP season and if his teammates don't step up their games, expect to hear from the Oilers captain some more this season.
