Maple Leafs Add Another Goaltender

The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with some injuries at training camp and have decided to sign goaltender Evan Cormier to a professional try out.

With a full preseason schedule in 2021-22 and the likes of Ian Scott and Joseph Woll both banged up, the Leafs wanted to make sure they could give both Petr Mrazek and Jack Campbell ample time off. Cormier is likely to appear in at least a couple of games before the regular season begins and could find himself battling for a spot within the team's lower affiliates.

Last season the 23-year-old Cormier appeared in 11 games for the AHL's Binghamton Devils and struggled. He finished the season posting a 3.40 GAA and a .888 save %. Certainly not the season he was looking for as the former fourth-round pick of the Devils looks to get his game back on track in 2021-22.

The Maple Leafs have their two NHL goalies set, and one of the best tandems in the league on affordable contracts. Cormier is now in a battle to impress and hopefully find some minutes within the Leafs system.
