New York Rangers: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts

With the off-season almost completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.

The New York Rangers will be discussed in this one. They are in for an immensely busy off-season, as they have many notable players with expiring contracts. Two integral pieces of their core headline this, but they also have some key RFAs as well.

Mika Zibanejad C (UFA): Mika Zibanejad has one year left on his deal and the Rangers are understandably having extension talks with him. He is their number one center and simply a spectacular player. In 56 games this past season, he scored 24 goals and had 50 points. He had a slow start to the season after dealing with COVID-19, but ended the year with 21 goals in his final 29 games. He also scored 41 goals and had 75 points in just 57 games the season before. With all of this, he is due for a major raise.

Adam Fox D (UFA): In 55 games last season, Adam Fox scored five goals and recorded 47 points. This along with his solid defensive play allowed him to the win the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman. When looking at how many huge contracts were handed out to defensemen this off-season, it is fair to assume that Fox will follow suit. Yet, he will be worth every penny, as he is still just 23 years old and has plenty of time left in his prime.

Ryan Strome C (UFA): Ryan Strome also will be in need of a new contract next summer. The 28-year-old center was in the rumor mill all off-season, but a trade never occurred. In 56 games this past season, he scored 14 goals and had 49 points, so it certainly is not bad that he's sticking around for now. He works very well with Artemi Panarin, too. However, with Fox and Zibanejad being bigger priorities, it may be awhile before they commit to an extension with him. They also have a few more key RFAs with expiring deals, too, so that also hurts his chances.

Honorable Mentions: Kaapo Kakko RW (RFA), Vitali Kravtsov (RFA), Alexandar Georgiev G (RFA)
