Ottawa Senators: 2 Underrated Players To Watch

The NHL has so many underrated players who deserve far more recognition. In this segment, we will be discussing two from every team in the league. Their overall roles and abilities may differ, but they all share the common theme that they are not as respected as they ought to be.

For full transparency, two teams will be randomly picked from a wheel each day. The winners will then be discussed.

Today's second piece of the day will be focused on the Ottawa Senators. The Senators are continuing to show signs of improvements. They've drafted well over these last few years, as they have added players like Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot, Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson to name a few. However, these two underrated players also should be talked about a lot by hockey fans around the globe.

Connor Brown RW: Since being traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Senators, Connor Brown has become a legitimate top-six winger. In 56 games this past season, he scored 21 goals and recorded 35 points. His importance to the team is also quite high, as he has become a leader for them. He is one of their alternate captains heading into the season because of this. If the 27-year-old scores at the same rate he did this past season over an 82-game schedule, he should be able to hit the 30-goal plateau. With all of this, Brown deserves far more attention than he receives.

Victor Mete D: After being claimed on waivers by the Senators from the Montreal Canadiens, Victor Mete looked solid. In 14 games, he had a goal and an assist. Yet, what is more important is that he looked dependable in Ottawa's end and even had a +5 rating. Over the last couple seasons in Montreal, he was not played as regularly as he should have been. The 23-year-old defenseman did have 13 assists in 71 games during the 2018-19 season, so he can help set up production. Keep an eye on him this season. He will be given more chances with the Senators and that should help him develop more.
