Toronto Maple Leafs: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for draft picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have had a pretty good amount of changes to their roster, but these two ultimately stand out the most.

Best Addition: Petr Mrazek G

Petr Mrazek could end up being a very solid addition for the Maple Leafs this upcoming season. He's a goaltender who is used to being utilized in a tandem, as evidenced by his tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes. Thus, he should be able to form a very solid one with Jack Campbell. He was limited to just 12 games this past season, but played very well in them. He sported a 6-2-3 record to go along with a .923 SV%. If he can continue to perform at a similar level for the Leafs, he will work out there.

An honorable mention should go out to Nick Ritchie as well. He is coming off of a career-best season that saw him score 15 goals and record 26 points in 56 games with the Boston Bruins. His stats could go up if on a line with Auston Matthews or John Tavares.

Worst Subtraction: Zach Hyman LW

Zach Hyman was such an integral piece of the Maple Leafs. He not only turned into a very solid top-six forward for them, but also a great leader. His hard work ethic was something that made him become a fan favorite. He also had a very strong season with the team, as he scored 15 goals and recorded 33 points in 43 games. Although the contract he signed with Edmonton may be a bit risky, there is no denying that Toronto certainly will miss him.
