Ottawa Senators Coach Throws Shade at Matt Murray

The Ottawa Senators are trying to pick themselves up after having several games postponed due to COVID-19. They were in San Jose on Wednesday night to faceoff against the Sharks. They didn't end up winning the game and their head coach is pointing the finger at Matt Murray.

The Senators lost 6-3 as Murray now is 0-5 on the season. He made 19 saves on 23 shots on Wednesday night and his head coach is expecting better. D.J Smith had this to say after their latest loss:

We deserved better. A point, or two. The difference tonight is probably their goaltending. I didn’t mind our details. I just think we’ve got to get someone to take the net for us and start to win us some games when we give that effort. We need someone to get in there and hold us right now. We’re a young team that needs someone to steal one for us, probably.

Certainly troubling times for Murray after signing a long-term deal with the Sens after a successful tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he collected two Stanley Cups. Now he looks like he'd have trouble winning a Calder Cup.

It's not all Murray's fault of course as he's been out for a little while. The other Senators goalies have not been great either, with Filip Gustavsson 3-4-1 with a .905 save % and 3.41 GAA and Anton Forsberg is carrying a 1-3 record with a 4.56 GAA and a .884 save %.

The Sens now fall to 4-12-1 on the season and expectation remains that changes are on the way.
