Ottawa Senators Defenseman Sustains Brutal Injury

According to Darren Dreger, Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom is believed to have sustained a broken hand. He also noted that the extent of the injury and expected recovery time will be determined after further evaluation.

This is horrible news for the Senators. They already have multiple players out with COVID-19. Furthermore, Shane Pinto, Colin White and Artem Zub all are dealing with injuries of their own. This all worsens when you remember that they also sport a 3-9-1 record and are desperately trying to turn this ship around.

This is also immensely frustrating for Brannstrom, as he was finally getting the chance to play with the NHL club again. The 22-year-old defenseman started this season with the Belleville Senators, where he scored a goal and had three points in nine games. After his call-up to Ottawa, he played in just two games and was held off the scoresheet.

Brannstrom has been the subject of trade rumors, so this could have been a good way for him to showcase himself. Yet, he certainly proved last season that he can be an NHL-caliber defenseman, as he scored two goals and had 13 points in 30 games.

Here's to hoping he isn't out of action for too long, but a broken hand certainly is a serious injury.
