Trade Rumor Involving Maple Leafs and Islanders

According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders could become trade partners. Staple sees Maple Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott as a great fit for the Islanders as they need some depth on defense and don't have a ton of money to spend.

Dermott has been in and out of the lineup in Toronto as the 24-year-old blueliner has been all over the place on the team's depth chart. Some games he's receiving top-4 minutes and other nights he's wearing a suit watching the game eating popcorn.

It's been trying times for Dermott as the Maple Leafs have made it clear they would like to move on from either him or Justin Holl. Both defenseman have been mentioned in trade rumors this season.

Dermott makes $1.5 million this season and next and the extra year of control is certainly appealing to other teams including the Islanders. The dynamic of Kyle Dubas and Lou Lamoriello making a trade would create quite the buzz in both markets.

As far as what could be involved in heading the other way to Toronto, one name to watch is forward Michael Dal Colle who is currently in the minors for the Islanders. The former first-round pick who is from the greater Toronto area has not found a consistent role for the team and is signed for $750,000 this season and is a pending restricted free agent. In 111 career NHL games, Dal Colle has tallied 21 points.

Lamoriello and Dubas making a trade together? What a time to be alive.
