NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils Could Move Winger

As we inch closer to the trade deadline, it makes sense for new names to enter the rumor mill. One player who is now starting to get attention is New Jersey Devils winger Andreas Johnsson.

According to Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic, there's a chance that the Devils could elect to move Johnsson at the deadline. It ultimately would be a good time for New Jersey to do so, as his value is at its highest. After having just 11 points in 50 games last season, the 26-year-old already has nine goals and 21 points in 36 games this campaign. With this, he is tied for third on the team in points with Jack Hughes. It's safe to say that Johnsson has been a pleasant surprise thus far.

If a team were to acquire Johnsson by the deadline, he would be more than a rental. The Swedish forward's contract doesn't expire under the completion of the 2022-23 season and carries a $3.4 million cap hit. If he can continue to produce this well, he would be worth it and a potential fit for a team's middle-six.

New Jersey doesn't need to trade Johnsson, but they could get a sweet return for the winger if they opt to this season. Time will tell what occurs, but there certainly should be interest around the league for him.
