NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues Interested In Veteran Defenseman

The St. Louis Blues are showing interest in Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot, according to Elliotte Friedman

It isn't surprising to hear that the Blues want a player like Chiarot. During the summer, they pursued fellow left-handed defenseman Zdeno Chara but struck out on their efforts. Similar to Chara, Chiarot does play a very physical game and could be a solid addition to their bottom pair. This is especially the case when we get to playoff time.

In 31 games this season with Montreal, Chiarot has five goals, seven points, and a minus-11 rating. He also has a notable 65 hits, and the Blues are known for being a physical team. There could be a match here between both parties because of all of this.

However, the Blues certainly won't be the only team that goes after Chiarot as we inch closer to the trade deadline. It will be interesting to see where the 30-year-old ends up from here. Besides St. Louis, many other franchises could use a player like him on the back end.
