Blackhawks To Interview Notable General Manager Candidate

According to Darren Dreger, Peter Chiarelli is set to have an interview with the Chicago Blackhawks regarding their vacant general manager position.

Chiarelli has a good chunk of experience holding this position at the NHL level. He famously was general manager of the Boston Bruins and then the Edmonton Oilers. When looking at his tenures with those teams, it is fair to state that he had mixed results.

When it comes to Chiarelli, his bad decisions tend to outweigh his good ones. One move that stands out was the horrendous Tyler Seguin trade he made with Boston. With that, he also traded fellow 2010 first-round pick, Taylor Hall, for only Adam Larsson with the Oilers. Perhaps his worst was when he traded the first-round pick that turned into Mathew Barzal for Griffin Reinhart. The latter only played 29 games with Edmonton before never finding himself back in the league again. Other notable gaffs include the Blake Wheeler trade with Boston and the Milan Lucic free-agent signing with the Oilers. Also, that Mikko Koskinen contract was questionable from day one.

However, Chiarelli's long list of overall experiences seems to get him interviews. He did of course lead the Bruins to their Stanley Cup in 2011. Furthermore, he was responsible for drafting Bruins star David Pastrnak and brought in other former players like Torey Krug, Nathan Horton, and Johnny Boychuk. Yet, his tenure with Edmonton certainly does create more negativity than positivity.

It will be interesting to see if the Blackhawks do decide to hire him as their next GM. If so, it will be interesting what moves he decides to make there.
