Islanders Place Forward On Waivers

Austin Czarnik has been placed on waivers by the New York Islanders.

When utilized, Czarnik has been effective for the Islanders this season. However, he has not played all too often. In 11 games with the team, he has two goals, three assists, and a plus-5 rating. That kind of production from the extra forward is not bad at all, and one has to wonder if another NHL team will be open to claiming him off waivers.

Czarnik will carry a $725,000 cap hit for the remainder of the season, so he would be a very cheap depth for another team. With that, he offers versatility, as he can play both center and right wing. Thus, it feels possible that we could see him claimed. This is especially true if it's by a team that is dealing with injury trouble.

In 136 career NHL games over six seasons between the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Islanders, Czarnik has 15 goals, 28 assists, and 43 assists. It will be interesting to see if he is able to build on those numbers elsewhere and gets claimed. If not, he will be reporting back to Bridgeport.
