Panthers Sign Top Junior Goaltender

The Florida Panthers have signed goaltender Mack Guzda to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Guzda is currently having an excellent year in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). This has especially been the case since being traded to the Barrie Colts. In 16 appearances with the team, he has an 11-4-1 record, 2.17 goals-against average, and .925 save percentage. Due to this, he has since helped raise his value as a prospect and of course, has landed this sweet deal with the Panthers.

Due to his very strong season, there were plenty of teams pursuing him. According to Jeff Marek, teams like the Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Anaheim Ducks were all interested in the 6-foot-5 goaltender. However, the Panthers were the lucky team to sign him.

The Panthers are already looking very strong in goal, so adding Guzda could only make them better. Keep in mind, they currently have Sergei Bobrovsky as their starter and Spencer Knight is continuing to develop his game. Now, they could have another potential future option if he can translate his success in juniors to the NHL.
