NHL Rumors: Avalanche Interested In 2 Star Players

The Colorado Avalanche are expressing interest in Claude Giroux and Marc-Andre Fleury, according to Chris Johnston

At this point of the season, the Avalanche have a ridiculous 33-8-4 record and look destined to go on a long playoff run. With this, they should be looking to make at least one big move before the trade deadline passes. Adding either one of these players would be excellent for them, as they would be even more difficult to beat.

If acquired by the Avalanche, there's a good chance that Giroux would be utilized on the wing. The Avalanche look pretty set at the center position, but the veteran forward would certainly still fit into their top six. He is once again having a very good season with the Philadelphia Flyers, as he has 15 goals and 36 points in 43 contests. However, he does have full control over whether he will be traded, and he is currently deciding if he wants to stay with the struggling Flyers. If an opportunity to play for Colorado arises, it's hard to believe that he wouldn't at least consider it.

Goaltending has been an ongoing question with the Avalanche this season, so it isn't surprising to hear that they are in on the Fleury sweepstakes. Darcy Kuemper has picked his play up a bit since his slow start, but Pavel Francouz has dealt with a plethora of injury trouble. Fleury would give them another very experienced and consistent goaltender for the playoffs, which certainly wouldn't be a bad thing. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner currently has a 15-16-3 record, .910 save percentage, and 2.88 goals-against average with the Chicago Blackhawks this season.
