NHL Rumors: Jets Could Trade 2 Forwards

The Winnipeg Jets have been struggling significantly lately. They have won just two out of their last 10 games and have an 18-17-7 record. If they continue to go down this trend, they likely will end up trading Andrew Copp and Paul Stastny by the deadline, according to Ken Wiebe.

Both Copp and Stastny are on expiring contracts, so they could be interesting rental candidates for playoff-bound teams. The Jets would be wise to bring in some assets for them, as each would probably net them decent returns. Of course, their primary objective is to get back in the playoff race, though. At this time, they are nine points behind the Calgary Flames for the second Wild Card spot, so they have some serious work to do.

Copp's ability to play all three forward positions would make him an excellent addition to any playoff team. In 42 games this season, the 27-year-old has 12 goals, 16 assists, and a plus-2 rating. This comes after he had 39 points in 55 games with the Jets, so he has been remaining consistent. If officially made available by Winnipeg, there would be a big market for him.

Stastny is the kind of veteran forward who playoff teams love to scoop up. In 31 games this season, he has 11 goals, nine assists, and a plus-5 rating. Overall, it's been another solid year for the 36-year-old center. Although he is getting older for NHL standards, he hasn't shown much sign of regression at all and could be an ideal 3C. Perhaps a reunion with the Colorado Avalanche could be in order.
