NHL Rumors: St Louis Blues Making Huge Push for Claude Giroux

The St Louis Blues would love to get their hands on Philadelphia Flyers legend Claude Giroux before the March 21 trade deadline. Reports surfaced earlier this week from Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff that the team was very interested in acquiring the Flyers legend for their playoff run.

Giroux is familiar with Blues head coach Craig Berube from his time in Philly and he's also very familiar with Brayden Schenn who he played with for six seasons. The Blues will have to beat out the Colorado Avalanche who are also preparing a mega-offer, however St Louis has the tools to step up their game. The two division rivals have now entered a bidding war and it's going to be entertaining as we approach the late March deadline.

While the Avalanche are open to moving their 2023 first-round pick and top prospect Justin Barron, the Blues offer will likely contain their 2022 first-rounder along with young defenseman Scott Perunovich, and prospect Jake Neighbours. It's expected the Flyers will retain half of Giroux's remaining salary for this season as he's on the books for $8.27 million.

Regardless of the destination, don't expect anything to come down the pipe on the Giroux trade front until after March 17. It's the night when Giroux will play his 1000th game and you can expect to see him wearing the familiar black and orange during the pre-game ceremony. Between the 17th and 21st, expect a blockbuster deal.
