NHL Rumors: Wild Looking To Upgrade At Specific Position

According to Darren Dreger, the Minnesota Wild are looking to improve at the center position.

The Wild have been linked to big names like J.T. Miller, but they also could look to add a middle-six kind of center, too. At this time, both Joel Eriksson Ek and Ryan Hartman have been playing well. However, when it comes to the rest of their depth down the middle, questions do come up. They are in a position where they could add a 3C and not run into any serious problems. This is especially true if they have just one year left on their contract. Keep in mind, the salary cap penalty for the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyouts increases to $12.7 million next year.

The Wild are in a position where they absolutely need to be buyers. At this point of the campaign, they have a 28-10-3 record and look like they could make a run for the Stanley Cup. However, they also have a tough division, as they are competing with teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, and St. Louis Blues. That doesn't even account for other contenders from the Eastern Conference like the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Carolina Hurricanes - for example.

The trade market should have a plethora of center options available for them, so it will be intriguing to see what move they end up making. This is the case whether they bring in a star or even a third-line guy.
