NHL Rumors: Wild To Trade Young Defenseman

If the Minnesota Wild make a big trade before the deadline passes, it may force them to send Calen Addison the other way, according to Frank Seravalli

At this juncture of the season, the Wild sport a 30-12-3 record and are aiming to go on a long playoff run. Their current roster is quite strong, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't look to make upgrades. They have been linked to players like J.T. Miller and Claude Giroux, which makes sense given their current center depth. Yet, trading for a big-name player will likely require Addison to go the other way. A team has to give a lot to get a lot.

Addison is viewed as one of Minnesota's top defensive prospects. The 21-year-old has spent the majority of this season with the Iowa Wild of the AHL, where he has three goals and 14 assists in 17 contests. With the NHL squad this campaign, he also has two goals and an assist in nine games. The potential to be a very effective offensive defenseman is there, which is why sellers will understandably want to acquire him.

The Wild originally acquired Addison from the Pittsburgh Penguins as a part of the Jason Zucker trade in 2020. Now, there's a chance that he could end up being traded for a second time. Let's see if it comes to fruition.
