Washington Capitals Captain To Miss All-Star Game

Alexander Ovechkin will no longer be participating in this year's All-Star Game, as the superstar winger has been placed in COVID protocol.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is unavailable tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers due to the NHL COVID-19 protocol. Based on a positive test result, Ovechkin will not participate in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas.

Ovechkin joins Nathan MacKinnon and Adam Fox as the players who have to miss out on the event. MacKinnon is currently sidelined with a facial fracture and concussion, while Fox is dealing with an upper-body injury. Roman Josi and Evgeny Kuznetsov replaced the pair.

Ovechkin has once again been one of the best players in the entire league this year. At 36 years old, he is not showing a single ounce of regression - in fact, he's only looking better. In 46 games, he has 29 goals to go along with an impressive 58 points. Needless to say, the future Hockey Hall of Famer is only building his amazing resume wonderfully this campaign.

It's a shame that fans will not be able to see Ovechkin live during the event. He's such a joy to watch and the kind of player they spend tickets on for this kind of special game.

The Capitals are set to play the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Ovechkin of course will not be able to play in this contest, either. As a result of this, the Capitals will be replacing him in the lineup with forward Brett Leason.
