Islanders Receive Brutal Injury News

The New York Islanders have announced that Cal Clutterbuck will miss the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery. With that, Scott Mayfield will also be sidelined for the next four to six weeks because of a lower-body injury.

Clutterbuck signed a two-year extension with the Islanders on deadline day. This, in turn, took away any possibility of the veteran winger being moved. However, we will now have to wait until next season to see him again. In 59 games on the year, the hard-hitting forward had six goals, nine assists, and a minus-6 rating.

Mayfield will be missed on the Islanders' blue line while he is out. In 61 games this season, the 6-foot-5 defenseman has three goals to go along with 15 assists. Overall, it's been a pretty decent year for him offensively.

Although the Islanders are out of the playoff race, it is never a good thing to lose multiple players to injuries. Here's to hoping they each have speedy recoveries.
