NHL Rumors: Stars Likely To Keep Veteran Goalie

According to Pierre LeBrun, the Dallas Stars are unlikely to trade Braden Holtby. This is because they not only have gotten back into the playoff race but also because Anton Khudobin is having hip surgery.

Holtby has been in the rumor mill for a decent portion of the season. He certainly would be a good option for a team looking to upgrade in goal, as the 32-year-old has been playing well. In 24 games, he has a 10-10-1 record, .913 save percentage, and 2.78 goals-against average. He is performing more like his old self, so it makes sense that Dallas would want to keep him around.

Yet, with Khubodin now expected to be out long term, that takes away their third-string netminder. As a result of this and Ben Bishop retiring earlier this campaign, they wouldn't have an internal replacement for Holtby.

Nevertheless, with all of this news, don't expect to see Holtby dealt. At this point, the Stars are making a push for the playoffs and currently hold the second Wild Card spot.
