Rangers And Hurricanes Strike A Deal

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Tarmo Reunanen from the New York Rangers in exchange for Maxim Letunov.

Because this trade was made after the trade deadline, neither of these players can join their NHL clubs this season. However, they each can report to their new AHL teams instead.

Reunanen appeared in his first four NHL games this season with the Rangers. During them, he recorded an assist and sported a plus-1 rating. The 24-year-old will be a restricted free agent at the season's end, so the Hurricanes will have control over his rights. Thus, if he impresses while in the AHL, he could be a player who they elect to keep around. In 40 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this campaign, he had two goals and 15 helpers.

In 60 games this season with the Chicago Wolves, Letunov has 13 goals and 10 assists. The 26-year-old is set to become a Group 6 UFA this offseason, so he will likely just be a rental for the Wolf Pack. In three career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, he has one goal.
