NHL Rumors: 2 Vancouver Canucks Offseason Trade Candidates

The Vancouver Canucks appear to be headed for the NHL's draft lottery. While a mid-season coaching change and an overhaul of management certainly sparked the team at certain points in 2021-22, the Canucks sit eight points out of a Stanley Cup playoff spot. They also have played more games than the wild card teams; the math isn't adding up. Expect to see some changes coming in Vancouver this summer and here's two players who could be on the move:

Tyler Myers

The Canucks are expected to look at some fresh faces on defense and on the wings for next season and it could all start by moving towering blueliner Tyler Myers. The veteran rear guard is signed through the 2023-24 season at $6 million annually, and he does hold no-trade protection against 10 teams of his choice. The mammoth defenseman ranks third on the team in ice-time and does a little bit of everything for the hockey club. He's managed to chip in with 15 points in 69 games in 2021-22 and is currently sitting with an impressive +13 rating. At 6-foot-8 defenseman like the Texas native don't grow on trees so there will be lots of interest on the trade market. The Canucks need to create some cap flexibility and it could all start with a deal at the NHL entry draft and Myers could be involved.

Tanner Pearson

While some feel Brock Boeser and Conor Garland are primed to be moved, the spotlight should be on Tanner Pearson. Canucks president Jim Rutherford is the reason why Pearson is in Vancouver in the first place as he dealt the winger from the Pittsburgh Penguins a couple of seasons ago. This season the 29-year-old has enjoyed himself a decent season, recording 33 points in 65 games. He's under contract through the 2023-24 season and while he has a full no-trade clause for this season, this offseason it changes to only cover seven teams. Expect to see Pearson and his $3.25 million salary get moved at the NHL entry draft so the team can concentrate on keep Boeser around long term.
