NHL Rumors: Red Wings Have List Of 4 Names On Their Coaching Search

The Detroit Red Wings are ramping up their head coaching search, and according to the latest rumors from the Motor City, they've got at least four bench bosses on their radar, with one interview already conducted.

According to NHL Insider Kevin Allen, the Red Wings have interest in John Tortorella, Rick Tocchet, Tampa Bay Lightning assistant Derek Lalonde, and now, as noted by Elliotte Friedman, former New York Islanders coach Barry Trotz.

Would Trotz, who's used to winning, be interested in taking over a team that hasn't made the playoffs for six straight seasons?

Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is doing his due diligence and isn't putting a timeline on the search, writes Allen. “I really don’t have a date for you," Yzerman said. "I’d say I’d rather do this sooner than later but it’s not happening tomorrow and hopefully it’s done before the first day of training camp."

There are some reports that he's leaning towards hiring a "taskmaster" type of coach, pretty much the opposite of the well-liked, outgoing Jeff Blashill.

Trotz is, by all accounts, the first coach he's interviewed.
