Bruins Sign Forward To Extension

The Boston Bruins have signed Joona Koppanen to a one-year, two-way extension. If called up to the NHL, he will carry a $750,000 cap hit.

Koppanen quietly just put together the best AHL season of his career, as he had 11 goals and 30 points in 62 games for Providence. If the 6-foot-5 center continues to improve, he could blossom into a future bottom-six forward for the Bruins.

The Bruins are not particularly strong down the middle, and this will only worsen for them if Patrice Bergeron retires. Thus, if Koppanen impresses at camp, perhaps will see on the Bruins' fourth line as soon as next season.
