Lightning Sign Defenseman To Extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning may currently be fighting for their third-straight Stanley Cup, but that doesn't mean that they can't get ready for the 2022-23 campaign as well. The team has signed Sean Day to a one-year, two-way contract extension. At the NHL level, he will carry a $750,000 cap hit.

Day made his NHL debut with the Lightning this season. In two games with the club, he had zero points and a minus-2 rating. He also put together his best AHL season with the Syracuse Crunch this year, as he set new career-highs with eight goals, 32 assists, and 40 points.

Day will continue to be a solid depth defenseman for the Lightning, but it will be intriguing to see if he can make the permanent jump to their NHL roster next season. Although he will likely never be the elite defenseman like many thought he would be when he was deemed an "exceptional player" by the OHL, perhaps he can be a bottom-pairing guy from here.
