Nazem Kadri Health Update Entering Game One

The Colorado Avalanche are hoping to have a couple of key pieces back in the lineup at some point during the Stanley Cup Finals. But on the day of Game 1, it's clear that center Nazem Kadri is not ready to return just yet.

Although Kadri skated this morning, according to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, it was without a stick. The bellicose center is recovering from thumb surgery, as a result of a hit from behind into the boards in game 3 of the Conference Finals.

The Avs still believe he'll be able to return at some point during the Finals, though LeBrun notes that there's "no guarantee of that at this point."

Although he won't provide any specifics on the injury updates, head coach Jared Bednar says that both Kadri and Andrew Cogliano are "day to day."

Cogliano blocked a shot with his hand in the Edmonton Oilers series, and is recovering from his own finger surgery.

Kadri had the best season of his career, as he heads into free agency. He totalled 87 points in the regular season, and has added 14 points in 13 playoff games.
