NHL Rumors: Oilers Forward Considering Retirement

According to Jim Matheson, Edmonton Oilers forward Derick Brassard is considering retirement.

Brassard has been dealing with hip injuries over the last few seasons, and this year was no exception. He was limited to just 46 games, but when healthy, he recorded 19 points. Overall, he can be a solid depth scorer at 34 years old, but his injury trouble could be enough for him to hang up the skates from here.

Brassard has also become a journeyman, as he has played for eight teams since the 2017-18 season. Thus, he hasn't had a long-term home for a while, and it's unlikely he will find one at this juncture of his career.

Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see what Brassard decides to do from here. If this is truly the end, the veteran can hold his head high. In 951 career games, he has 202 goals, 320 assists, and 522 points. Those aren't bad numbers at all.
