Canucks Sign Defenseman

The Canucks have signed Christian Wolanin to a one-year, two-way contract. At the NHL level, he will carry a $750,000 cap hit.

Wolanin appeared in nine NHL games this season between the Sabres and Kings. During them, he scored a goal and had a minus-1 rating. The 27-year-old is primarily a depth defenseman at this juncture of his career and will likely continue to be for the Canucks.

If sent down to the AHL at the start of the season, Wolanin should be a good addition for Abbotsford. For example, he just had an 18-point campaign in 37 games for the Ontario Reign.

Overall, this is a good little depth signing for the Canucks. Let's see how Wolanin performs with the club from here.
